Crewe train travellers set to be hit by series of strikes

Passengers hoping to travel by train from Crewe on Saturday (October 1) - will be hit by a national rail strike.

There will be no trains running from Crewe as railway workers on Network Rail and 14 train operating companies will take strike action - including Avanti West Coast and Transport for Wales.

In an ongoing dispute over pay, job security and working conditions, workers will also strike on Wednesday (October 5) and Saturday (October 8).

Northern Rail is also taking part, urging customers to 'check before they travel' on Sunday (October 2) and Sunday (October 9).

A rail spokesperson said: "As a result of ASLEF and RMT strike action, Northern customers are advised that there are no Northern services on Saturday 1st and Wednesday 5th.

"In addition, there is a very limited service on Saturday October 8th and customers are advised not to travel.

"Services are also expected to be affected on Sunday 2nd and Sunday 9th October, especially in the morning, so please check before you travel.

The days rail travel will be affected across the UK (Northern Rail).

"On October 8, only travel by rail if necessary and if you do travel, expect severe disruption and plan ahead - especially the first and last trains of the day. 

"Remember to check your entire journey as other train service providers may be affected."

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: "We apologise in advance for the significant disruption and inconvenience this action by the RMT and ASLEF unions will cause to our customers. 

"As we have previously pledged, we will continue to work towards a resolution to this issue with the hope of avoiding more disruptive strikes in the future." 

Rail customers are also urged to check before they travel on Sunday - October 2 and Sunday - October 9 (Crewe Nub News).

There will be no rail replacement buses on strike days.
