Organiser steps aside from famous local Christmas lights display
The organiser of a famous local Christmas display has stepped aside from the event - taking a break from his efforts that were started in memory of his late sister.
Mr Graham Witter and his family first created the Weston Christmas Lights Display, Carters Green Farm, back in 2013.
The huge display was dedicated to Mr Witter's late sister, Jessica, who had cardio-facio syndrome, severe epilepsy and complex health needs.
This display has raised over £150,000 for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice. It was not held last year due to workload and some 'negative feedback.'
On Saturday (October 1), Mr Witter made an announcement on social media - confirming the Weston Christmas Lights Display would not be running in 2022.
He said: "After giving deep thought and consideration to my festive fundraising efforts, I have decided to step aside from designing, planning, and organising the annual Weston Christmas Light Display.
"Taking a break from all the hard work last December, has enabled me to reflect on my fundraising efforts and has led me to this conclusion.
"My decision has been led by a variety of different reasons, including the aspirations of my professional career and the pressure and stress this puts on me and my family.
"Whilst I am stepping-aside from my festive fundraiser, I am totally committed to community events and activities, therefore, intend to use my free-time supporting a variety of different initiatives across Cheshire.
"This year I have already volunteered many hours supporting the Royal Cheshire Show and the Nantwich Food Festival."
The Weston Christmas Lights Display attracted visitors from Cheshire, Staffordshire and further afield.
Mr Witter and his family transformed their Fram, outbuildings and garden into a winter wonderland for all to enjoy.
In 2020, Mr Witter was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his services to charitable fundraising and the community.
He added: "I know this news will bring disappointment, sadness and upset to many families and children in our local community, but I send you all my happiness, love, and cheer this December.
"I will spend time reflecting on my incredible fundraising journey and think about the amazing memories our light display has given families since 2013.
"It has raised £150,000 for the Donna Louise Children's Hospice, in memory of my late sister, Jessica."
Mr Witter is selling a number of Christmas lights from the famous display to members of the public.
