Crewe town centre car park closed for two days allowing 'site investigation' works

A Crewe town centre car park is temporarily closed for two days - allowing 'site investigation' works to take place.

These investigation works are taking place ready for Crewe Youth Zone - expected to open on the car park site in spring 2025.

The new facility is being delivered by national charity OnSide, in partnership with Cheshire East Council and Crewe Town Board.

It will include an indoor climbing wall, four court sports hall, training kitchen and a music room with a recording studio,

Crewe Youth Zone will also have a fully equipped gym, dance and drama studio, 3G kick pitch, arts and crafts room, enterprise and employability suite.  

On Monday 8 May, Cheshire East Council confirmed the temporary Oak Street Car Park closure with a social media statement.

OnSide is awaiting approval on plans for the Youth Zone, submitted to Cheshire East Council in December 2022 (Ryan Parker).

The statement read: "Oak Street Car Park in Crewe will be temporarily closed for site investigation works tomorrow and Wednesday.

"Alternative parking facilities can be found at Thomas Street, CW1 2BD (pay, long stay) and Edleston Road, CW2 7HT (pay, long stay).

"Thank you for your patience."

OnSide is awaiting approval on plans for the Youth Zone, submitted to Cheshire East Council in December 2022.

The Oak Street Youth Zone will create 70 full and part-time jobs - as well as 100 volunteering opportunities (Ryan Parker).

If successful, work is due to start on site in 2024.
