Crewe tennis club celebrates fundraising success after smashing £15k target

A Crewe community tennis club is celebrating after smashing a £15,000 Crowdfunder target to help resurface its courts, unlocking vital match funding from Sport England.
Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club has now secured the full £15,000 funding contribution needed to resurface its two courts at its Church Lane site, marking a major step forward for the club and its members.
Founded in 1977 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the club has grown into a thriving community hub with around 100 members playing regularly on its two floodlit courts behind Wistaston Memorial Hall & Community Centre.
Club officials say the resurfacing work will ensure a modern and safe playing surface for both members and the wider community.
The successful fundraising campaign was supported by several local businesses, including Poole Alcock Solicitors, Tailored Kitchens, Proff Heating, Portcullis Electrical, Ensure Safety and Training, Crave Coffee, and Grand Construction.
Buoyed by the strong backing from the community, the club has now increased its overall fundraising goal to £42,000.

Reaching that figure would allow the entire courts improvement project to be completed without dipping into the club's limited reserves.
A club spokesperson said: "We are incredibly grateful to the sponsors and supporters who have helped us get this far. Their support has allowed us to begin improving the area and start creating something really special for our community.
"Any additional funds we raise will help us replace damaged fencing, make further improvements and expand what we can offer to create even more opportunities for everyone to get involved."
The club is also planning to introduce a new pay-and-play scheme to widen access to non-members and encourage more local residents to try the sport.
Supporters are being invited to a Community Tennis Day at the club on Saturday 14 March from 9.30am to 12pm.
The family-friendly event will include tennis games, a One Point Slam challenge against club members, a raffle with prizes and a cake sale to support the next stage of the project.
