Crewe pub to close for refurb this May as owners prepare to leave
By Ryan Parker 2nd Apr 2026
The Imperial in Crewe will close for a major refurbishment this May, after its brewery decided to change the style of the venue, ending the remaining four years of the current owners' contract.
This April, Punch Taverns Limited applied to Cheshire East Council to vary the Edleston Road venue's premises licence, including layout changes, the creation of a games area, and updated opening hours from 8am daily.
In a message to customers, Stacey and the team, who have run the pub since 2025, but been a part of it for almost a decade, said: "As of 5 May, we shall be leaving The Imperial. Thank you everyone for all your custom over the years.
"Thank you for your support and the motivation you have given us, thank you for the fun times, the events and being part of the lives you all lead in our venue.
"We have really enjoyed every moment of it, sadly it's been cut short. The venue will be closed when we leave for a refurb.
"We aren't gone yet and we are going to have a huge leaving party for us at the venue… so keep an eye out for that… but watch this space…
"This is not goodbye, we will soon have a new adventure to take you all on."
Representations to Punch's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Thursday 16 April.
You can also submit your representation by emailing: [email protected].
The Imperial is currently open 3pm to midnight (Monday to Wednesday), 3pm to 1am (Thursday), 12pm to 3am (Friday and Saturday) and 12pm to 2am (Sunday).
