A CREWE pub has been reported for breaking lockdown rules over the weekend.

But Cheshire Police says the establishment - which is not being named - will not be prosecuted by the constabulary after it was told to shut its doors by officers.

Instead, details of the breach have been sent to Cheshire East Council to determine whether any further action is needed.

The reopening of pubs, bars and restaurants in Crewe over the weekend passed largely peacefully, but officers maintained a presence in the town centre and in Cheshire as a whole there was heavier policing in some areas.

In all 10 arrests linked to the night-time economy were made and a man was arrested following a serious assault outside a pub in Warrington, while there were two arrests for drink driving in Northwich and Wilmslow and two arrests over allegations of drunk and disorderly behaviour outside a Nantwich pub and one in Macclesfield.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "There were just two premises where officers felt that the COVID-19 restrictions were not being adhered to, so they were asked to close voluntarily, which they agreed to do.

"The issues have been reported to the local authority, who will determine if any action is required."

The other pub which police ordered to close was in Sandbach.

Cheshire Police says it will continue to monitor the night-time economy and warned people to continue to stay alert to the threat of coronavirus by following social distancing measures as they cannot enforce them.

"We received a number of calls relating to issues which were not policing matters, including people not following the social distancing guidelines, but we are relying on people's good nature to follow the guidance," said Superintendent Julie Westgate.

"While there were a small number of isolated incidents at the weekend the overwhelming majority of people behaved responsibly and adhered to the COVID-19 restrictions that remain in place.

"It was also encouraging to see the measures put in place by Cheshire licensees to keep their customers as safe as possible."

And Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane warned: "As coronavirus restrictions evolve over the coming weeks and months it is important to remember that the threat of coronavirus has not gone away and while pubs and restaurants are reopening, things will not simply go back to normal straight away.

"It is important that Cheshire residents continue to stay alert to the threat of the virus and continue to follow social distancing measures put in place to protect us"
