A family pub and restaurant chain in Crewe could permanently close down in July, with a hotel operator looking set to take on the site.

Brocklebank Brewers Fayre, Weston Road, looks set to cease trading on Thursday 4 July.

The site could be taken over by Premier Inn, who will be expanding its Crewe Central hotel across the road, with an estimated extra 20 rooms.

Premier Inn will operate from two separate buildings, with the closed Brocklebank becoming an integrated restaurant for 'hotel guests only' (Nub News).

This possible closure comes after parent company of Brewers Fayre, Premier Inn and Beefeater, Whitbread Inns, carried out a review of all UK sites.

Following this review, it has confirmed 112 "lower-returning" restaurants will be converted into hotel extensions, including Crewe.

126 of its under-performing eateries will also close, leaving the company with 387 integrated locations part of hotels, as well as 196 "better-performing" branded restaurants.

Premier Inn's Crewe Central manager confirmed a planning application is set to be submitted for the Weston Road site in the near future.

Whitbread says its Brocklebank closure is subject to consultation, with redundancies at the site being kept to a minimum.

A Whitbread spokesperson told Nub News: "We recognise this will be unsettling for our team members, and we are providing them with dedicated support.

"We are committed to working hard to enable as many as possible of our affected team members to stay with us by either transferring into new roles, or by taking up other vacancies across the business more broadly through our existing recruitment activity."
