Crewe Photographic Society put the skills of members in the frame with a Projected Digital Image competition.
The group has been staging Zoom meetings throughout the pandemic for members to share their skills and love of photography.
Secretary Peter Robinson said: "There are several competitions throughout the year but the Projected Digital Image is a true test of technical ability and creativity.
"It is split into three sections, General colour, Monochrome and Nature. Members are allowed to enter up five images with not more than three in any one section. The images are scored out of 20 by independent judge Nick Berentzen. He admitted that the overall quality of the work made his task difficult to separate them."
Stephen Coyne took the first place in the General section with his atmospheric 'Study in Concentration'. Keith Mullier's 'Ballerina Erica' and Paul Hill's 'Bamburgh Castle at Dawn' came equal second, while Martin McGing's 'Somerford Eventer', Stephen Coyne's 'Regeneration' and Ray Hill's 'Formula Ford Close Racing' came third. In the Monochrome section, Nick awarded Ray Hill's 'Bellowing Stag' top marks and thought the timing was perfect with the stag bellowing. He added that the beautiful side lighting created texture and isolated the stag from the background. Ray also came equal second in mono with his 'Out of Control' with Stephen Coyne's also scoring 19. Tom Seaton's 'Opulence and Ennul' and Peter Robinson's 'Seeking Forgiveness' scored 18. Ian Whiston once again dominated the nature section by achieving 1st with ' Cheetah Carrying Kill', 2nd with 'Warthog Demise' and with 'Bee eater with Catch' sharing 3rd position with Paul Hill's 'Bellowing Red Deer Stag'. Ian specialises in nature photography and has accumulated a large collection of gold medals to prove it. Nick praised all the nature entries. Peter added: "At Crewe Photographic Society new members are always given a warm welcome. While Zoom meetings can make it more difficult to socialise compared with physical meetings, we have several members' meetings where they can discuss each other's work and pick each other's brains." The varied programme includes guest speakers, portfolios, and competitions. For more information go to www.crewephotosoc.com
