Crewe park's new 'community' Summer Fun Day triumphs over rain

Families and young people came out in strong numbers to enjoy a new Summer Fun Day held at Crewe's Leighton Brook Park on Wednesday 27 August.

The event, organised by Crewe St Barnabas councillor, James Pratt, with support from local organisations, ran from 10am to 3pm and offered a wide range of activities for all ages.

In the morning, children took part in a treasure hunt around the park, sports day races, and crafts, with free packed lunches provided.

The afternoon saw older children and teenagers join a selfie trail, football games, dodgeball, and more creative activities.

South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club drew crowds with lively demonstrations, while coaches from Crewe Alexandra Football Club delivered sessions and football challenges.

Visitors also had the chance to see a real fire engine and police car up close, thanks to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Constabulary.

Health and wellbeing were also a focus, with the NHS Living Well Bus offering free checks and advice, alongside information and support from a range of local partners including Bentley Motors, St Paul's Centre, Your Housing Group, and The Guinness Partnership.

The event, stronly supported by local charity, Wishing Well, was well attended throughout the day despite the rain, demonstrating strong Crewe community spirit.

Cllr Pratt told Nub News: "I wanted to put together an event for residents right in the heart of our community in St Barnabas, here in our local park. 

Coaches from Crewe Alexandra Football Club delivered sessions and football challenges at Leighton Brook Park (Peter Robinson).

"Despite the rain showers it didn't dampen anyone's spirits and It was a fantastic day, with so many different local organisations, charities and local businesses coming together to create a really enjoyable day.

"I would particularly like to thank the wishing well project who helped me to co-ordinate the event and to all all our local organisations and businesses that put on such a great day. 

"Thanks to everyone who came to support the event and i hope you enjoyed the day as much as i did."
