A Crewe mum who's life was 'changed forever' after a shock injury is preparing to dive with sharks - raising funds for a spinal charity.

Trish Brookes suffered a serious spinal cord injury in August 2021 and spent four months at Southport Special Rehabilitation Centre

The married Crewe mum came home in November 2021 but suffered life-changing injuries - needing a wheelchair and being classed as paraplegic.

In October 2022, Mrs Brookes carried out the Heaton Park 5k to raise funds for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).

She is now preparing to dive with sharks at Blue Planet Aquarium, Ellesmere Port, on Thursday 2 March and Friday 3 March.

The Crewe mum will be raising further funds for the spinal charity.

Mrs Brookes told Nub News: "I gained a spinal cord injury in August 2021 and spent four months in Hospital (special rehabilitation in southport).

"I came home in November 2021. I can now use crutches but need a wheelchair and I am classed as paraplegic.

"This is my second challenge since gaining my spinal cord injury. It will raise funds and awareness for the Spinal Cord Association."

Mrs Brookes has set-up a Just Giving page for her upcoming shark dive.

The Crewe mum has targeted £500 worth of donations.

Mrs Brookes said: "I feel thankful to the team of physios and staff at Southport Rehab who have got me to where I am today.

"Nothing is guaranteed. Tomorrow I may not be able to use my legs so I try to stay positive.

Mrs Brookes has set-up a Just Giving page for her upcoming shark dive (Just Giving).

"Part of my journey is to raise awareness for the Spinal cord Association - a split second and my life was changed forever."
