A CREWE Co-op store re-opened for business today after an £825,000 investment.

The new-look garage store at the petrol filling station at Bradfield Road has undergone a big expansion after it closed in February for the major makeover.

The store, which supports 17 local jobs - six of them new roles - has more than doubled its floor space so it can better serve the community

Crewe Town Mayor Cllr Benn Minshall was in place to officially open the store with long-serving staff member Cheryl Barlow.

It re-opens with Amazon Lockers, customer car parking, hot food, Costa coffee express and bakery alongside an increased focus on fresh, heathy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and everyday essentials.

The revamped store will be open between 5am-12 (midnight).

Keith Salt, Co-op Area Manager, said: "We have had a great response and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Coppenhall.

"The site has been transformed and we are looking forward to welcoming the community back to their new-look store. A petrol filling station is a local hub – providing the food and fuel needs for the community, conveniently.

"Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life. That is why we also want customers to know that they can become a member of their Co-op and they can make a difference every time they swipe their membership card when buying own branded products."

The Co-op also provides a funding boost locally and gives back to causes in the area through its membership scheme, where members receive a five per cent reward on purchases of own brand products and Co-op donates a further one per cent to community causes.

Contactless card payment limits are increased to £45, making it easier, quicker and safer to shop. The retailer's Food Share scheme works to minimise food waste and make a difference locally, working with local not-for-profit organisations to share food with those in need in the community.

While the Co-op's Community Shopping Card makes it easier for those self-isolating or who have been instructed to stay at home to shop and pay for their essentials - cards can be purchased or topped-up by calling 0800 029 4592, enabling friends, families or volunteers to shop on their behalf in store.

The Co-op picked up the "Convenience Retailer of the Year" and "Food-to-go Retailer of the Year" titles at the latest Retail Industry Awards.

Students who are TOTUM cardholders - the new name for NUS extra – can pocket a 10 per cent discount off groceries at the Co-op.

Co-op is owned by around 4.6 million active members, and alongside Food, it operates: Co-op Funeralcare, Insurance, Health and Legal Services.
