A CREWE man terrified a neighbour by brandishing a kitchen knife after he was told to turn his loud music down, a court heard.
Scott Young whipped out the knife when he was challenged by a neighbour at Whiston Close in Winsford near to where the defendant used to live.
When police were called Young lashed out at PC Mark Brameld kicking him in the knee as he was arrested.
Young, 31, of Hungerford Terrace, Crewe appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court for sentencing after admitting possessing a bladed article in a public place as well as a charge of threatening behaviour, both offences being committed on April 25 this year.
He had denied assault by beating of an emergency worker on the same day, but was convicted of the offence after a trial.
Prosecutor Rob Youds told the court that several residents complained about Young's music and he was asked to turn it down. When one went around to confront Young at his former residence at Hartwell Grove the defendant stuck two fingers up at him.
Young then walked around to the neighbour's home where he was seen raising a clenched fist.
When the neighbour lifted his arm in self-defence Young pulled out a kitchen knife with a six to eight-inch blade from behind him, said the prosecutor.
The neighbour ran inside and bolted his door before calling police, whom he later told: "I thought he might use it and I wanted to get out of his way as quickly as possible".
By the time police arrived Young had thrown the knife away into a neighbouring road, but he was verbally abusive as he was arrested and kicked the officer on the knee.
Young, who was of previous good character, told the court he was "ashamed" of his actions and apologised to the PC and his former neighbours.
"I can't explain my actions," he said.
But magistrates told Young they took the view their sentencing powers were not sufficient to deal with him in the magistrates' court.
The defendant was told: "You went around to your neighbour's and brandished the knife. There were children present and other neighbours were involved and that doesn't even begin to deal with the assault on the emergency worker."
Young has to attend Chester Crown Court to be sentenced on October 20, while his bail was granted on the condition he does not approach his former neighbours and visit Whiston Close in Winsford.
