A Crewe man has been fined hundreds by a court for dodging a £47.60 rail fare - travelling from South Cheshire to West Yorkshire.
Michal Kotero, of Chambers Street, faced the charge of failing to produce/deliver a rail ticket on request/give his name or address.
The 30-year-old travelled from Crewe to Bradford Interchange on March 11 - aiming to dodge the £47.60 rail fare.
When arriving at Manchester Piccadilly station - the Crewe man was asked to produce a ticket.
Kotero was unable to show his ticket - blaming it on a ticket vending machine error.
The man claimed he had purchased the Crewe to Bradford tickets but they hadn't come out of the machine.
Kotero said he had bought a return ticket and could prove this.
Following this incident, a letter was immediately sent out to the Crewe man requesting proof of payment or proof of purchase for a ticket to Bradford.
Kotero failed to respond to this letter.
He was handed a Fixed Penalty Notice which remained unpaid.
The Crewe man attended Manchester & Salford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 6 September.
Kotero was sentenced under the single justice procedure - ordered to pay the total sum of £451.60.
The 30-year-old was fined £220, ordered to pay £150 costs, a £34 victim surcharge and £47.60 compensation for the offence.
