Crewe man charged after drink driving over three times legal limit

A Crewe man has been charged with drink driving over three times the prescribed limit, after his vehicle was seen "swerving across the road."

On Sunday 17 December, Cheshire Police received reports of a white van being driven erratically on Newcastle Road, Shavington.

At around 2:55pm, officers were deployed, locating the vehicle at a home address in Weston.

The man was arrested for failing a roadside breath test, providing a sample of 126.

Barry Smith 41, from Weston, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit.

He is set appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Monday 15 January.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "On Sunday 17 December at 2:55pm, we received reports of a white van swerving across the road, nearly hitting oncoming vehicles on Newcastle Road, Shavington.

"Response patrols were deployed and searched for the offending vehicle.

"The van and driver were located at the home address in Weston.

Barry Smith 41, from Weston, is set appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Monday 15 January (Ryan Parker).

"A male was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

"After providing a sample of 126, Barry Smith 41, from Weston, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit.

"He will appear in court on Monday 15 January."
