Crewe fast-food restaurant closure causes 'mayhem' at town's other outlet
The closure of a Crewe fast-food restaurant has caused 'mayhem' by heaping pressure on another outlet within the town - creating huge queues and item shortages.
McDonald's, Dunwoody Way, has been closed for weeks - piling pressure on the restaurant's Macon Way outlet within the town.
The drive-thru fast-food franchise, which opened in 2015, is closed until Thursday (October 13) - for refurbishment works.
This closure has been made worse by taking place during the busy McDonald's Monopoly sales promotion period - running from September 7 to October 18.
All in-store, drive-thru and online orders have been taking place at Crewe's only other McDonald's restaurant on Macon Way - two miles away.
What have local residents made of the problems?
Yesterday (September 25), local residents have reported huge queues at McDonald's, Macon Way, with customers saying a number of menu items aren't available.
Beth Jackson, from Crewe, said: "I was a customer in the shop a couple of days ago and it was mayhem.
"There was lots of shouting and pushing forwards.
"I never realised how much demand there was for a Maccies."
Carly Davies, from Crewe told Nub News: "They currently have non fries, chicken nuggets or certain burgers."
Local resident, Sarah Symonds, added: "They've not had Big Macs on Thursday (September 22) or Sunday (September 25)."
Why is McDonald's Dunwoody Way closed?
On May 23, McDonald's submitted a planning application to remove and install new windows, create a new access door, new dry store, new bin store and install new fencing.
This also included associated works around the site.
Cheshire East Planning Department approved this application on 31 August.
The case planning officer concluded: "The proposed development is considered to be of acceptable design and would not adversely impact upon the amenities of neighbours."
Work commenced on the site two weeks later.
McDonald's Dunwoody Way reopens on Thursday (October 13) at 11am.
