A centenarian couple from Crewe have celebrated their 100th birthdays together, marking an extraordinary milestone in their seventy-eight-year marriage.

Peter and Peggie Taylor, who have both lived in Crewe since childhood, celebrated their 100th birthdays this year.

Peter, born on 11 April, 1924 in Hellifield, Yorkshire, and Peggie, born on 26 August, 1924 in Prees Heath, Shropshire, moved to the town when relatives became employees of the railway.

Peter and Peggie Taylor's story began with a chance encounter at Kettell's cocktail bar, High Street (now closed), in 1944 (Ryan Parker).

Their story, which began with a chance encounter at Kettell's cocktail bar, High Street, in 1944, has blossomed into a lifelong journey filled with love, family, and countless memories.

Peter's last job before retirement was as Headteacher of Wistaston Green Primary School. He is also a Life President of South West Cheshire Scouts.

During World War II, Peter was in the RAF as Air Crew, flying Lancaster bombers. Peggie was a 'land girl' in the Women's Land Army during the war.

The Crewe couple celebrated their centennial birthdays with many and varied festivities with family, friends and neighbours.

The celebrations began with Peter's birthday in April culminating with a family party on Peggie's birthday in August, attended by their children, grandchildren and fourteen of their seventeen great-grandchildren.

The Taylors, both in good health, attribute their longevity to a life full of simple joys and mutual respect.

Peter and Peggie Taylor, who have both lived in Crewe since childhood, have been married for 78 years (Peter and Peggie Taylor).

Peter and Peggie told Nub News: "We have had a tremendously happy few weeks celebrating our birthdays with family, friends and neighbours. A quite emotional time."

The couple's life together has spanned some of the most transformative periods in modern history.

They witnessed World War II, the moon landing, and the digital revolution, all while building a life grounded in shared values and enduring love in Crewe.
