A local councillor has been banned from a popular Crewe community group after making a derogatory swipe about the Queen's wealth - just hours after her death.

Crewe town councillor, Cllr Joe Cosby, made the comment in response to a post about whether a local party event should be cancelled in the wake of the Her Majesty's death.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away, yesterday (September 8), aged 96, at the Balmoral estate in Scotland where she had been staying over the summer.

Crewe town councillor, Cllr Joe Cosby, made the derogatory comment in response to a post about whether a local party event should be cancelled (Crewe Town Council).

The news of the Queen's death has shocked the nation and as a mark of respect, 10 days of national mourning begins today (September 9).

A number of sporting events and strikes have already been being cancelled - with more cancellations are expected to follow.

Following this news, a member of private community group, Crewe TV, asked for help as to whether she should cancel a party with live music this Saturday (September 10).

Cllr Joe Cosby soon responded to the post, making a derogatory comment about the Queens's wealth.

This caused anger on the group with some pointing out the Crewe councillor had helped to set-up a local Platinum Jubilee celebration event back in June.

Crewe TV has 12 thousand members in it. It is run by A Star Promotions (Crewe TV).

Admin of Crewe TV, Hazel Lea, decided to remove Cllr Cosby from the group, saying: "You are blocked from the group. No need to be disrespectful."

Following his ban from Crewe TV, Crewe Nub News contacted Cllr Cosby for comment.

Later this afternoon, the chair of marketing and events committee said: "While on reflection the comment may have been ill-timed, nothing was derogatory.

"Some events have rightly been cancelled, others rightly continue, and my comment was no more than a reflection of this."
