Crewe Alexandra's weekend fixture has been officially postponed - as a mark of respect for the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Railwaymen were due to face a trip to Grimsby Town in EFL League Two tomorrow (September 10) at 3pm.

After being closely monitored by doctors for a number of hours, Queen Elizabeth II sadly died at Balmoral Castle yesterday afternoon (September 8).

Queen Elizabeth II died peacefully at Balmoral yesterday afternoon - September 8 (Crewe Heritage Centre).

In a statement Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow (September 9)."

Following a mutual agreement, all EFL, Premier League and FA competitions have been postponed this weekend.

The National League also confirmed all non-league and grassroots football would be postponed.

So far, the EFL has confirmed that fixtures from 9-10 September will be postponed.

The Alex will have to wait a while longer until they can try to rectify their 4-0 away hammering at Grimsby in August (Kevin Warburton).

Crewe were hammered 4-0 at Blundell Park in a Carabao Cup tie earlier this season.

The Alex will have to wait a while longer until they can try to rectify this result with an away league victory.

EFL fixtures are set to recommence on Tuesday 13 September 2022.

Crewe Supporters have the option of claiming a refund for their match ticket or keeping it until a new date has been confirmed.
