The Wishing Well and Cadent Gas have officially launched a new project in Crewe to support vulnerable local households, raising awareness of energy efficiency.
Starting in June, the partnership helps those on the lowest incomes, living in fuel poverty, living with long-term conditions or disabilities and with particular communication needs.
Community project manager at The Wishing Well, Matt Reen, educates households on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, with what to look out for.
Matt encourages vulnerable residents to join the Priority Services Register (PSR), a free UK-wide service, helping the customers most at risk if their energy was ever cut off.
Matt told Nub News: "The Cadent project allows us to support areas of high deprivaion in Crewe and the surrounding areas.
'We are also offering much more varied support and activities depending on the local needs.
"We can offer energy advice, carbon monoxide advice and carbon monoxide monitors free for homeowners.
"We even offer slow cookers and cooking advice including workshops for local groups.
"As the new community project manager for The Wishing Well, I have already been visiting many local community groups and church groups to raise awareness of what we are doing.
"I am reaching to out to more people who need help. If you know anyone who is vulnerable or is suffering from fuel poverty, please get in touch with me."
Matt is providing vulnerable households in Crewe with access to free carbon monoxide monitors, heated blankets and slow cookers to reduce costs.
He is also providing advise to local residents on keeping their homes warmer, as well as delivering workshops on energy efficiency to community groups.
Cadent Gas are the UK's largest gas distribution network, managing a network of more than 80,000 miles of pipes.
Head of customer vulnerability at Cadent, Phil Burrows, said: "Cadent are delighted to be working with The Wishing Well in Crewe.
"The charity is at the heart of the community and offers so much for people in around the local area.
"Cadent are delighted to be able to offer funding to carry on and grow support for people to access through the charity."
