A cat breeding business has had its controversial garden expansion plan refused by Cheshire East Council - following a high number of objections from local villagers.
The council refused an application to construct 10 cat houses in the back of a Shavington garden yesterday (August 1).
Applicant, Mrs S Natar, of 35 Weston Lane, Shavington, had applied to erect a 'timber frame and clad outdoor cat houses with exterior exercise areas'.
This controversial plan would have converted the whole of the rear garden into cat houses to expand its capacity to a virtual industrial sized enterprise.
Since the application was submitted in February, 101 objections have been submitted in support of the neighbours living close to the Weston Lane property.
Neighbours to the proposed cattery objected, saying: "We spent months travelling the length and breadth of England to find our perfect forever home.
"We chose Weston Lane because of the lovely picturesque surroundings it sits in and the quietness of the countryside.
"Had we viewed Weston Lane to find a noisy, smelly and unsightly cattery in the grounds of the neighbouring property then we would have walked away and would never have bought the property.
"Why should it be deemed acceptable to site a noisy, smelly, cattery next door to us now, with the cattery structures dominating our view which in our opinion is an absolute eyesore."
Since May, there have been more than 20 representations from members of the public - all have bene objections.
Back in June, a resident of Main Road, Shavington, objected to the proposals, saying: "Weston Lane is a very desirable location in Shavington and i'ts not the place to be running a Cattery.
"I have worked at a Cattery and I know how much noise cats make, it can be constant for hours, day and night.
"Based on the information proposed and the potential for hundreds of cats being present at any particular point, the odour, noise will be horrific."
One of the key reasons for members of the public objecting to the proposals, was that the noise and smell would negatively affect the entire street.
A member of the public from Ridley Close, Shavington, added: "This is neither the right location or the right project and shows complete disregard for the neighbourhood."
These representations from members of the public gave Cheshire East Council no doubt about their feelings for the proposed cattery extension.
Planning officers estimated the breedings sheds would have produced around 200 kittens a year.
The council's planning officer for this application said: "The use of the property as a large-scale cat breeding business is inappropriate in this residential area, causing harm to the residential amenity of neighbouring properties."
The target decision date for this application was July 8. A decision of refusal has now been reached.
