A Crewe business has issued an urgent warning to customers after a man falsely claimed to work for them - selling off 'old stock' from a van.

CrossKeys Beds, Broad Street, was first notified of the 'gentleman' when customers requested refunds on items the company had not sold.

A man was driving around in a van, knocking on doors - claiming to work for CrossKeys Beds.

The rogue trader was driving around in a van, knocking on doors - claiming to work for CrossKeys Beds (Google).

The individual told householders the Crewe family-run business was closing down and his job was to sell its 'old stock.'

This rogue trader sold beds, mattresses and pillows wrongly in the name of CrossKeys beds.

A number of this man's customers then contacted the Crewe business requesting refunds.

CrossKeys Beds has since confirmed the man has no connection to them and it doesn't even sell pillows.

A statement read: "The owner, Stephen Dexter, was working in our shop in Crewe when a gentleman came in requesting a refund on a bed he had bought from us.

"He said someone had knocked on his door and said they were from CrossKeys Beds and that the business was closing down and they were selling off old stock (from the back of a van).

CrossKeys Beds opened in Crewe back in 2002. It then expanded to Northwich in 2013 (CrossKeys Beds).

"Stephen apologised of course, and told the gentleman this person had nothing to do with us.

"Since then, there have been a lot more people come in to discuss the mattress they bought from 'us'. And even people messaging on Facebook.

"We had a message on Facebook where a lady said her husband had bought a bed and pillows for £100 off the same van.

"We don't even sell pillows at CrossKeys Beds."

The Crewe company has made it clear this 'gentleman' is not connected to them in any way.
