Crewe and Nantwich has been given a warning for 'extreme heat' from Wednesday 24 to Thursday 25 June.

The Met Office has placed an amber warning for high temperatures covering most of the country, from Manchester in the north to Exeter in the south.

They have warned of 'exceptionally warm' temperatures throughout the day and night.

The Met Office said 'substantial changes' in daily routine and working practices may be necessary.

Delays on road and public transport networks may also be possible.

There could also be adverse weather effects for those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potential serious illness or danger to life.

The Met Office said: "Very hot weather is likely to continue in general until at least Thursday across the highlighted region, although significant variations from place to place and day-by-day are likely.

"Temperatures by day are widely expected to exceed 30 Celsius, with the hottest areas potentially peaking around 38 Celsius.

"Overnight, temperatures are unlikely to fall much lower than high teens Celsius, and some places will not fall below 20 or 21 Celsius. These high temperatures will also be accompanied by high humidity.

"Cooler conditions may begin to become established from the west following this period, but confidence is low."

The best way to keep safe is by drinking plenty of fluids, keeping out of the sun, and avoiding exercise between 11am and 3pm.

If going outside, wear sunscreen, stay in the shade and try to bring a wide-brimmed hat.
