Crewe and Nantwich FM community station officially launches on DAB radio
A popular Crewe and Nantwich FM community station has officially launched on DAB radio - allowing more people in the local area to tune into its coverage.
The Cat 107.9FM, the local community radio station for Crewe and Nantwich, launched on DAB digital radio on Saturday 17 June - alongside its current FM and online output.
The Ofcom licenced community radio station is now in its eighth year of operation and is making itself more accessible to listeners by adding digital radio to its line-up of ways audiences can tune in to the station.
The Cat, located in Cheshire College - South & West, is run and supported by a team of over 50 volunteers.
Cheshire College also hosts the transmission site for the South Cheshire small-scale DAB multiplex.
The Cat is now available on digital radio, as well as online, on smart speakers, and on its original launch frequency of 107.9 FM.
This station works closely with local community groups, charities, local businesses and town councils.
It serves as a platform to give voices to people from all backgrounds and ages through its radio programmes, podcasts and online content.
Station director, Paul Simpson, told Nub News: "Over 12 months of hard work has gone into getting The Cat onto DAB, and we're so glad it's finally going live this Saturday.
"Even more people in Crewe and Nantwich, and the surrounding villages and rural areas can now tune into their local radio station which provides unique content and coverage that can't be found on other stations in the region.
"We're also grateful for the support of our partners and supporters at South Cheshire DAB and Cheshire College South and West that have allowed this project to come to fruition."
The Cat works with students at Cheshire College South and West to provide in-depth hands-on work experience at a live, Ofcom licenced radio station - preparing them for careers in the broadcasting and creative industries.
Earlier this month, The Cat launched Cat Xtra on DAB digital radio - a sister station targeting younger audiences.
