Crewe Alexandra confirm appointment of new first team manager

Crewe Alexandra have officially appointed Lee Bell as their new first team manager - following a total of 58 received applications.
Bell managed Crewe for four matches as interim manager - winning three and losing one.
On Friday (November 4), first team manager, Alex Morris, stepped down from the role for 'compassionate reasons' after 24 matches.
Former assistant manager, Bell, was appointed Crewe's first team interim manager with immediate effect.
On Tuesday (November 22), Crewe Alexandra confirmed they had officially opened the application process for a new First Team Manager.
Today (December 1), the club confirmed Bell as Crewe's new first team manager.
This comes following a total of 58 submitted applications with a final shortlist of 12 candidates.
A statement on Crewe Alexandra's website read: "Crewe Alexandra are delighted to announce the appointment of Lee Bell as first team manager.
"The Club conducted a comprehensive recruitment process. A total of 58 applications were received, and 12 were shortlisted.
"Bell, who has devoted more than two decades to the Club as a player and coach, emerged as the outstanding candidate following a series of interviews.
"He will lead the team with the crucial support of his backroom staff, including assistant manager, Alex Morris, and player development manager, Kenny Lunt."
Bell, a former Alex midfielder and club captain won his first three matches in charge - each by the score of 1-0.
The new first team manager suffered a 3-0 away defeat to Barnsley in the FA Cup Second Round on Saturday (November 26).
Crewe chairman, Charles Grant, told Crewe Alexandra's website: "I'm very pleased that Lee has accepted the position of First Team Manager.
"His driving ambition and clear objectives, allied with his deep understanding of Crewe Alexandra and strong relationships with existing staff, made him the standout candidate.
"We look forward to a positive future under Lee's leadership."
Next up, Crewe host Newport County in a League Two fixture on Friday night (December 2).
Bell added: "It's an honour to be entrusted with the position of manager at a Club that means so much to me.
"I'm grateful that the fans have been superb with me during my short period as interim manager, and the players have responded so positively.
"Now, with the support of Alex, Kenny and the other members of our coaching team, I'm excited and confident about the challenge that lies ahead."
