Crewe Alex top scorer departs for London after rejecting contract offer
Crewe Alexandra's 2022/23 top scorer has departed for pastures new in Greater London - after rejecting the club's contract offer to keep him at Gresty Road.
On Thursday 29 June, Crewe confirmed forward, Dan Agyei, had left to join League One side Leyton Orient.
The 26-year-old attacker, who could play upfront or on the wing - scored 17 goals in 55 EFL appearances over an 18-month spell with the club.
Agyei was Crewe's top scorer last season, featuring in all 46 League Two matches - netting 16 times.
This summer, the former Burnley forward scooped Crewe's Players' Player of the Season and the PFA Community Champion award.
Agyei was offered a new and improved contract to remain in South Cheshire, but accepted an offer from newly-promoted Orient.
Under manager, Richie Wellens, the Greater London club came first in League Two last term - finishing on 91 points.
Kingston-born Agyei, has opted for the opportunity to play in League One and move closer to home.
Confirming Agyei's departure, Crewe released a short statement on the club's official website.
The statement read: "Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to thank Dan for his efforts and service, and wish him all the very best in the future."
Crewe returned to pre-season training on Wednesday 28 June - making three summer signings to date.
