Crewe Alexandra FC's new assistant manager has praised the club's "terrific" supporters, encouraging them to create more noise for a home fixture this weekend.

Ryan Dicker, who was appointed this August, was delighted with the noise coming from the home end in Crewe's 4-2 win against Newport County (August 15).

The assistant manager says Alex players were driven on to win their first league match of the season, with the KPI Recruiting Stand particularly lively.

Dicker is hopeful Mornflake Stadium's atmosphere can be even better when Crewe host Walsall this Saturday (August 19).

He told Crewe Alexandra'a website: "The fans were terrific and the players thrived off the noise they made.

"It's up to us to put on performances that they can continue to get behind and make a good atmosphere because it makes a difference.

"Walsall are a good footballing team and we expect a tough test. They play with two up front and they won't be afraid to put balls into the box.

Crewe Alexandra defender, Mickey Demetriou, scored twice as his side beat Newport County 4-2 on Tuesday 15 August (Crewe Alex).

"We have to do our homework and take control of the game as much as possible.

"In the second half against Newport we made better decisions and worked the ball up the pitch well into good areas, so we have to implement our way of playing again.

"It would be terrific if we could get another three points; it would consolidate the good start to the season."

Goals from Mickey Demetriou (x2), Chris Long, and Elliot Nevitt were enough to seal victory for Crewe last time out, rising the team into the playoff positions.
