Couple evacuated from Crewe home after bathroom blaze

By Gwyn Griffiths 27th Aug 2021

A COUPLE were evacuated from their home in Remer Street this morning after a fire ripped through their bathroom.

Both the occupants of the house, a man and woman, were checked out by paramedics at the scene and neither of them, and another man at the scene, required medical treatment.

Fire officers believe the blaze was triggered by an electrical fault in the property's hot water cupboard.

Three fire engines, two from Crewe and one from Nantwich, attended the scene.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to tackle the flames.

They also used a large fan to ventilate the area while crews conducted temperature checks with a thermal imaging camera.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "At this stage the fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in the hot water cupboard."

Crews are still dampening down the area.
