AN election could be called to fill a councillor vacancy on Crewe Town Council.

Residents have up until 5pm on January 18 to declare an interest in the vacancy in the Crewe West ward created by the resignation of councillor Julian Profitt.

It is the third casual vacancy on the town council in recent months.

Dawn Clark and Martin Edwards were co-opted at a November meeting of the full council to represent the Crewe Central and Crewe East wards respectively.

An election to fill the current vacancy will need to be held if ten electors request that one be held by contacting the returning officer at Cheshire East Council within 14 days (excluding public holidays) of the date of the notice, which was on December 23 last year.

If no notice is given then the town council will have to fill the vacancy by co-option, as was the case before Christmas.

Interested parties can call the Elections Office at Cheshire East Council on 01270 685922.
