Cheshire East Council has offered its response to a meeting that took place - discussing ways to shorten the Crewe road closures, reduce congestion and improve road signage.

The council's highways team and contractors Balfour Beatty met with Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council, Crewe MP, Dr Kieran Mullan on Friday (June 17).

The A530 Middlewich Road from the junctions of Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane, has been closed since May 9 for the NWCP works.

Cheshire East Highways and contractors Balfour Beatty met with Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council, Crewe MP, Dr Kieran Mullan on Friday (June 17) to discuss the Crewe road closures and congestion (Ryan Parker).

Due to these works, ambulances were having to make 11-minute detour to take emergency patients to Crewe hospital - via the diversion routes.

Earlier this month, Bentley Motors agreed to reopen Pyms Lane for emergency ambulances - following talks with Cheshire East Council.

Following this positive news, Cheshire East Council is now looking to shorten the Crewe road closures - as well as aiming to cut out congestion.

Today (June 29), Councillor Craig Browne, chair of Cheshire East Council's highways and transport committee told Nub News: "Cheshire East Council will always investigate opportunities to mitigate unnecessary congestion on the network.

"Firstly, we need to fully understand the implications of any changes that would affect both the public and emergency services that access these routes.

"This has to be done before we could implement them. "

Cllr Craig Browne, chair of Cheshire East Council's highways and transport committee said the council will always investigate opportunities to cut out unnecessary congestion (Cheshire East Council).

Following the meeting with Minshull Vernon and District Parish Council and Dr Mullan, the council has confirmed the A530 Middlewich Road will be fully open from Coppenhall Lane, Crewe roundabout to Smithy Lane from October 2022.

The Council say a short section of Middlewich Road from Smithy Lane to Flowers Lane will be single lane or fully closed from October 2022 to March 2023.

The council's Highways will also look at making Minshull New Road (from the Pyms Lane roundabout to West Street) and Frank Webb Avenue (from Badger Avenue to West Street) to be one way.

The whole road works scheme was expected to take approximately 80 weeks from the start of the closure on May 9 - ending in November 2023.

Cheshire East Council say it will need to fully look in to the implications of any changes, affecting the public and emergency services - before making any changes (Jonathan White).

Minshull Vernon Parish Council has said it will lobby Cheshire East planners to allow a lot more weekend working - aiming to speed up the completion of the work.

Cheshire East Council released its first North West Crewe Package newsletter on Thursday (June 23).
