Council refuses new Crewe housing development due to 'lack of parking'
Cheshire East Council has refused proposals to construct a new housing development on a Crewe brownfield site, due to the "lack of parking" provided.
On Tuesday 30 January, the council determined plans for land off West Street "not acceptable."
Submitted last December, the development would have comprised three three-bedroom homes (two-and-a-half-storeys) and six two-bed properties (two storeys).
The hectare site previously housed a scout hut and small-scale workshops, with these demolished around a decade ago.
Housing plans included cycle and bin storage, but failed to provide car parking spaces.
The council received 28 letters of the objection to the development, with one neutral.
A Cheshire East case officer said: "Parking is not provided for any of the properties and whilst the site is in the urban area of Crewe it is not in the town centre for example and residents will own cars.
"This is also a busy section of the highway along the site frontage and side streets.
"Additional on-street parking from the development is not acceptable as it would displace vehicles onto the highway.
"As a result the council's highways engineer objects to the proposal due to the lack of parking."
Cheshire East believed the development would fail to provide a high-quality living environment and be unsuccessful in improving the character and quality of the area.
