LIBRARY staff are calling on youngsters from Crewe to help create a light installation for the Lumen arts trail.

The Luminate Youth project is looking for recruits, aged between 11 and 16, for the after-school library-based digital workshops, which offer the opportunity to try a range of digital arts activities, including coding and digital light art.

The Arts Council England-funded project will culminate in the creation of a collective light installation which will be displayed as part of the Lumen Lite being created around the town centre in late November.

Running across the nights of November 26 to December 12, the trail is a Covid-safe alternative to the full Lumen Lights switch-on which was held in the town in 2018 and 2019, but cancelled last year because of the pandemic.

Together with the project's delivery partner, Mako Create, Cheshire East Council's libraries team is also offering a series of Minecraft 'Inspired' October half-term digital light activities aimed at families with primary school-aged children.

Cllr Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "This is another great opportunity for young people to develop existing skills and learn new ones in a very engaging and safe environment.

"It's fantastic that the young people will also get a chance to show off their skills at Crewe Town Council's Lumen event. Putting these skills into practice gives young people such confidence. I wish them all well."

If you are interested or you know someone that might be interested in registering for Luminate, this can be done through Eventbrite here.
