CORONAVIRUS deaths in the Crewe area fell by nearly 90 per cent during July.

While the recent rise in UK infection rates and local lockdowns, particularly in the north west, means wariness of the disease is still high the falling trend in virus-related deaths is reflected with zero numbers registered in 10 postcode areas of Crewe during the month.

Compared to June when there were 24 coronavirus deaths and May when there were 37, last month saw just three people pass away. They were in the Willaston/Shavington (1) and Haslington (2) postcode areas.

The coronavirus death toll for the Crewe area has risen now to 119, but it and neighbouring towns are registering zero figures for most post code areas according to figures released today by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

There were no virus deaths in Alsager, Rode Heath and Scholar Green, Sandbach and Middlewich, while two were recorded in Nantwich.

Deaths have been reported by the ONS using a postcode method.

Haslington and Weston remains the the worst-affected area around Crewe with total deaths from the virus numbering 25.

Crewe's second worst-affected region is Crewe North East with a total of 20, while 17 people have died in Crewe Town and Victoria, 15 in Coppenhall and Underwood, nine in Gresty Road and eight in Crewe North West.
