A ''conversational' Crewe pub has brought back its food menu, after being taken over by a local couple with big plans for the venue.

The Crown, Earle Street, has been joint-managed by Jo Bebbington and her partner, Chris Holdcroft, both from Crewe, since spring.

"We have been operating The Crown for six months and have leased the whole building for the next five years," said Jo.

Within the next 12 months, there are plans to provide upstairs accommodation and start on a new function room space at The Crown (Nub News).

Located adjacent to the Municipal Buildings, within Crewe town centre, The Crown has gone through a number of managers in recent times.

Under its new management, there is a brighter future ahead, with the venue bringing back its food menu this August.

Within the next 12 months, there are also plans to provide upstairs accommodation and start on a new function room space.

Jo told Nub News: "Our kitchen has been operational for the last three months. It was last used as on office space so had to be converted back into one.

"In the new year, we aim to start work upstairs and turn the place back into a type of hotel again.

"There will be six en-suite rooms. We will be going down the b&b route aimed at local contractors for daily or weekly rental.

The Crown brought back its food menu this August, served between 10am and 2pm (Nub News).

"We have the Municipal Buildings next door where a lot of people get married and we can use them as bridal suites.

"There is a garage out the back of the pub which we plan to turn into a function room. We will work on this once the rooms are done upstairs.

"We plan to do wedding receptions and live music in the function room when it is completed."

Served between 10am and 2pm, The Crown serves all day breakfasts, toasties, oatcakes, breakfast baps and sandwiches.

The venue offers its breakfasts in two sizes (small and large), also serving a children's menu and extras, such as cheesy garlic bread, chips and dirty fries.

Jo said: "We are like a family-run business here, my brother is the chef.

The Crown's new management team see the venue as a conversational pub. A place to come in, sit down and have a chat over a few drinks (Nub News).

"We initially started with a bigger menu but realised people wanted the likes of breakfasts and toasties.

"It has been changed a number of times and we are happy with it now.

"Our breakfast baps and sandwiches are popular. The sandwiches can be ordered after the kitchen closes at 2pm.

"In the evenings, we have a DJ on once a week. One week we have a Friday theme night and the next there is a Saturday disco karaoke."

The Crown's new management team have previous experience of running a pub and know the Crewe area well.

Chris used to run a venue in Telford, with Jo operating the nearby Kings Arms, alongside her partner, before taking on this opportunity.

Jo said: "I am born and bred in Crewe. I left to join the army when I was 17 and came back about seven years ago.

"In a period of just 18 months, I went from being a cleaner at The Kings Arms to the joint-owner of it and then the joint-owner of The Crown.

"This place is very much a conversational pub. Our customers like to come in, sit down and have a chat over a few drinks.

"We don't have music blaring out in here. It is more of a pint, a glass of gin and chit chat in the corner.

"This pub has had a bad reputation in and past. It has taken a while to shake it off but we are getting there now.

The Crown will be serving food on Remembrance weekend, donating a percentage of its proceeds to the Royal British Legion (Nub News).

"We don't have trouble in here anymore. We are well liked by Crewe folk and run the place off respect."

The Crown has served food across Remembrance weekend, donating a percentage of its proceeds to the Royal British Legion.

Jo added: "Remembrance is massive for me. Across the weekend, we plan to set a table up and serve sausage and bacon baps, as well as hot drinks.

"We will be giving 20 per cent of our proceeds from this to the Royal British Legion.

"Overall, The Crown is a nice little pub. With it being in the middle of town, it can be packed one minute and quiet the next.

The Crown is open 10am until 10:30pm (Sunday to Thursday) and 10am until midnight (Friday and Saturday), with last orders half an hour before. (Nub News).

"Me and Chris are ambitious and believe this place will be great once all the projects are complete."
