A closing Crewe town centre post office is looking for a new 'suitable franchise partner' - as confirmed by a huge British retailer.

On Thursday (December 8), WHSmith confirmed it will be permanently closing down its Victoria Centre store on March 18, 2023 - with the post office.

The British retailer has said it is unable to trade 'viably' from this Crewe location - closing the store at its next lease expiry.

WHSmith confirmed the closing post office, run by Post Office Limited, is looking for a new suitable franchise partner in Crewe.

A WHSmith spokesperson told Nub News: "We can confirm that the WHSmith store in Crewe will be closing in March 2023.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to continue to trade viably from this location and the decision has been taken to close the store as a result of the forthcoming lease expiry.

"We are currently in discussion with Post Office Limited so they have time to find a suitable franchise partner to ensure continuity of Post Office services within the town.

"We are disappointed to be losing our presence in Crewe and remain very thankful to our customers for their support.

"We are also extremely grateful for the commitment of our in store colleagues who we will support with this transition and redeploy to nearby stores, where possible."

WHSmith and the post office will both close down on the same date.
