Police officers check over 1000 vehicles in Crewe aiming to make town's roads safer

Crewe Beat Management East and South block officers have stepped up efforts by checking over 1000 vehicles - aiming to make the town's roads safer.
The team's multi-faceted road safety operation progressed to two days of enforcement action last month (November ) - with results that please officers.
Operation to tackle speeding, parking, MOT, road tax and insurance offences on Saturday (November 19):
- Sydney Road, Crewe: 437 vehicles checked, 21 activations of speed exceeding 35mph.
- Crewe Road, Winterley: 136 vehicles checked, seven activations of speed exceeding 35mph.
- Crewe Road, Haslington: 120 vehicles checked, no activations of speed exceeding 35mph.
- Bradfield Road, Crewe: 279 vehicles checked, four activations of speed exceeding 35mph.
There was a Toal of 972 vehicles being checked and 32 activations of speed exceeding 35mph.
A further 84 vehicles were run through the Vehicle Smart app to check for MOT, road tax and insurance offences.
There was also an operation to tackle speeding and parking offences on Wednesday (November 30)
Parking patrols were conducted with the assistance of children from Vine Tree Primary School, Hungerford Primary Academy and St Mary's Catholic Primary School.
A speed enforcement operation was also conducted with assistance from children at Mablins Lane Community Primary School.
The results were:
- Vine Tree Primary School: Ten Children's Parking Advisories (and words of advice) given.
- Hungerford Primary Academy: Four Children's Parking Advisories (and words of advice) and two Police Parking Advisories given.
- St Mary's Catholic Primary School: Seven Children's Parking Advisories (and words of advice) and two Police Fixed Penalty Notices given.
- Mablins Lane Community Primary School: Two Police Fixed Penalty Notices given.
A total of 17 children were involved in the day of enforcement action.
Further days of enforcement action have already been planned for December, January and February.
They will again take place in the Crewe East and South areas.
Crewe Beat Management Inspector, Andy Smith told Nub News: "Our East and South block is working together as a team to make Crewe's roads safer for all members of the community.
"The team is also working alongside local schools and the local council.
"By engaging with road users, we explained to them the laws around speeding, parking, MOTs, road tax, insurance, bicycle helmets and bike lights.
"We educated them on the importance of adhering to those laws for their and other road users' safety, our officers and PCSOs are making a concerted effort to keep our roads and community's safe.
"They take enforcement action when necessary, and the results of the road safety operation to date are pleasing."
All primary schools in Crewe East and Crewe South will become involved in the operation from December to February.
Inspector Andy Smith added: "Officers will continue to carry out enforcement days in the Crewe East and South areas, and to involve local primary school children in them.
"Children need to be made aware of the importance of road safety both for now and for when they are driving themselves in the future."
