A THUNDEROUS noise heard across Crewe this morning wasn't another dose of the heatwave's unpredictable weather but the sound of the UK's famed jet team The Red Arrows.
Flying in their famed V formation the elite team's pilots were on route to RAF Valley to practise for VJ Day, whose 75th anniversary commemorations they are taking part in on Saturday across the country.
The jets flew over South Cheshire in mid morning on their way to the Anglesey air base which they regularly use for pilot training.
Crewe residents used to watching the night skies this week for lightning and thunder took to social media to inform of their fleeting presence.
Among them was Ian Affleck, who tweeted: "....flew directly over Bentley".
Covid-19 has largely grounded the aerial display team who have had limited training time for Saturday's big event.
But their distinctive Hawk jets were in the skies above Anglesey for around 45 minutes in the middle of the day with the authorities clearing air space by banning aircraft below 8,100 feet between 9am and 4pm around the airbase.
The UK-wide flypast on Saturday will see the Arrows pass Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, and London, where they will fly over the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
August 15 instead marks the moment Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II.
The celebrations include a service of remembrance broadcast on BBC One (9.30 to 11.30am). Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will lead national tributes and a two-minute silence will be held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas in Staffordshire, which will be followed by the flyover.
