A LONG-STANDING memorial shrine in Crewe has taken on a bright, festive look.

Floral tributes and messages have been left at the corner of Wistaston Road and Stewart Street by family and friends of Eric Tomkinson since January 2013.

Mr Tomkinson, who was from Crewe, was stabbed to death, aged 26, on the nearby pathway.

A tree which served as the initial family memorial had to be cut down after it was vandalised with a chainsaw.

But the trunk of the tree was retained and it is alongside it that a neatly decorated Christmas tree emerged in recent weeks, decked out with baubles, tributes and timed lighting.

It's a wonderful way to remember a loved one at this time of year.
