RESIDENTS claim they have been passed from "pillar to post" trying to find out who is responsible for restoring their faulty street lights.
Large parts of Ravenscroft Road will have to do without street lighting over Christmas after an outage.
Residents reported the issue to Cheshire East Council and Lila Connect, the broadband provider in the area only, only to be told the lighting is the responsibility of neither.
Local councillor Connor Naismith says he has been trying to establish who needs to do the repair work, but says the residents have been passed around from one body to another.
He said: "They reported the issue to Cheshire East, only to be told they are not maintained by the council and to contact Lila Connect. They then told them they should contact the utility company, Scottish Power," said Cllr Naismith.
"Bizarrely, when residents contacted Scottish Power, they were told it is the council's responsibility to repair them."
The Crewe West councillor added: "They have been passed from pillar to post on this and it is now dark very early and visibility is extremely poor without the street lighting.
"It's also disappointing how overly complicated it is to establish whose responsibility it is to maintain something."
A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: "There is a Scottish Power network supply issue in Ravenscroft Road and the council has been informed this will be rectified by mid-January.
"The matter is completely in the hands of Scottish Power."
Scottish Power has been approached for a comment.
