A charity shop chain has been given the green light to relocate in Crewe town centre, making use of a vacant former Argos unit.

British Heart Foundation Furniture & Electrical, Victoria Centre, will relocate to Unit A, Market Shopping Centre.

The charity retailer, currently located opposite Asda, has been looking at moving to a more accessible unit for lifting its furniture.

A gym was expected to take the first floor of the former Argos unit, but this this will now be used as British Heart Foundation's warehouse area (Ryan Parker).

The former Argos unit, which closed in 2020, was stripped out ready for the development last summer.

British Heart Foundation will carry out Internal alterations, installing new illuminated signs and a non-Illuminated sign.

A Cheshire East case officer said: "The proposal will make use of an existing vacant retail unit formerly an Argos within the primary shopping centre.

"The development will make use of the existing features of the retail unit and is in keeping with the other retail units leading up to the Royal Arcade and Market Centre.

"The proposal would be of a simple design and similar to the existing retail set up of the shopping centre, making use of signage similar to that previously used on site.

"There would be no significant adverse impact on residential amenity given the commercial nature of the setting.

"There are no material highway implications associated with this proposal, as the signs are located on private land and area mix of non-illuminated and internally illuminated but at a low level.

"The proposed development is acceptable in this instance and complies with the local planning policy and the National Planning Policy Framework."
