A FUNDRAISING effort to take a girl with incurable brain cancer on a dream trip to Disneyland has reached £15,000.

Crewe schoolgirl Acacia Surridge-Hill, six, was sadly diagnosed with a brain tumour last September, after doctors first thought she had Bell's Palsy.

Staff at Wistaston Academy set up a GoFundMe page for Acacia, who still attends lessons via online tutoring, so she and her family can travel to Disneyland Paris.

Staff at the primary and nursery school hit their exercise bikes at the start of the month, and cycled the equivalent mileage to Disneyland to raise awareness about their courageous pupil.

Fundraising has now just passed an amazing milestone.

Over 80 staff members virtually cycled 485.4 miles, the distance from Crewe to Paris.

School Family Support Worker Tina Brittain said: "About 80 staff took part. We had everyone from teachers, cleaning staff, kitchen staff, office staff. Everybody.

"We had six exercise bikes that we were using at all times. Even ex-pupils and some partners of staff members [who didn't even know Acacia] came along. We even had local companies donate flowers to the family. It was very much a school and community effort.

"The weather was the toughest thing - we had to do it outside and it went from sun to rain, to hail, to a little bit of snow and back to sunshine again. But we pushed through.

"The gratitude and appreciation that Acacia's family have shown for every single donation is amazing.

"It is a dream come true for Acacia, who has wanted to meet Elsa and Ana [from Disney's Frozen]. And I know that the family are so incredibly overwhelmed about the amount of money that has been raised and it will help so much in making that dream come through."

Acacia's Mum Carly is overwhelmed with the support from the school and the community in raising £15,303, over three times the original goal to fund the trip.

You can still donate to the cause to help Acacia and her family to enjoy the French theme park.
