Labour's parliamentary candidate for Crewe and Nantwich, Connor Naismith, has called on public bodies to screen Euro 2024 in Crewe town centre's new Ly2 space.

Ly2 has seen the centre of Lyceum Square becoming a mixed-use space to host events, festivals, performances, and activities throughout the year.

The 2023 development includes colourful and multi-functional street furniture, along with a new raised events stage with an integrated digital screen.

Labour's parliamentary candidate for Crewe and Nantwich, Connor Naismith, has called on public bodies to screen Euro 2024 in Crewe town centre's new Ly2 space (Nub News).

Euro 2024, running from 14 June to 14 July, is an opportunity to drive a summer of increased footfall and economic growth in Crewe, says Mr Naismith.

A number of local residents and representatives called for Crewe Alexandra's League Two Play-off Final match to be screened, but this fell through.

Mr Naismith told Nub News: "We saw what a huge appetite there is to support our local club, Crewe Alexandra, over the weekend with thousands of fans descending on Wembley, and many more in pubs and at home across our towns, to watch the League Two play off final."

"However, In future I think there is a real opportunity for local public and private bodies to work together to make live sport a central feature of town centre regeneration in Crewe and general vitality of our high streets across the constituency."

"We have a fantastic facility in the Ly2 outdoor arts and entertainment space, which includes a large digital screen.

"Why not grasp the opportunity of the Euro 2024 tournament to show live tournament football on the big screen in the centre of town."

"This would drive people to spend in our local economy, at Crewe Market Hall and in town centre shops.

"In turn, this has the potential to drive confidence from investors and support longer term town centre regeneration."
