An award-winning singer songwriter who now lives near Crewe is appearing at Gawsworth Hall later this week.

Rob Wheeler, who picked up the Songwriter of the Year in the ARC Radio Listener awards last year, is appearing as support with The Shires at Gawsworth Hall on Friday (August 4) night.

This is no mean feat for the local performer, as The Shires are the UK's best-known country act, in what is set to be a sell-out gig.

Rob lives in Haslington, and grew up in Alsager. He has a string of albums to his name.

In April, our sister site, Alsager Nub News told here how Rob had released his third album, recorded during a tour with American legend, Nell Bryden, "Live and Lonely in London".

Now Rob is getting ready to perform at a concert with country music duo, The Shires, who have had four consecutive UK top five albums.

Tickets for Friday night's show cost £38 and are available from this link here.

If you can't make the gig, why not support the local Americana performer by giving him a like on Facebook.
