An "authentic" family-run Chinese restaurant has launched on the edge of Crewe town centre, run under the same ownership as a popular former buffet in the town.

Golden Phoenix, Market Street, reopened with a new twist on Friday 15 March, operated by Mr Alan Tsui.

Alan operated The Dragon Inn on Market Street until 2012 and ran The Grill at The Golden Phoenix in the same unit as now, several years ago.

The Golden Phoenix specialises in cantonese roasts and seafood (Nub News).

Alan told Nub News: "I am delighted to say The Golden Phoenix is back open after a Just Eat dispute with the previous owner.

"We are a family-run business of five, with me, my wife, daughter, a very good friend and a chef.

"We have the original chef from The Dragon Inn restaurant, who had semi-retired and been in this industry for 40 to 50 years.

"We both didn't have anything on and thought let's go for it.

"I said to him we should run a real authentic Chinese restaurant in Crewe, something you would normally find in Chinatown in the likes of Birmingham, Manchester or London.

"We specialise in Cantonese roasts, something you would find in Chinatown, such as duck, crispy pork, roast pork char sui.

The Golden Phoenix holds up to 40 people, offering authentic Chinese food seen in Chinatown (Nub News).

"We also specialise in seafood such as king prawns, lobster, crab, turbot.

"If you want westernised Chinese, you can visit places in the likes of Nantwich or Sandbach.

"But, if you want to try something authentic and totally different to other Chinese restaurants in this area, you can come to Golden Phoenix."

Alan has lived in the local area for 15 years and is delighted with The Golden Phoenix's first week back trading.

The restaurant holds up to 40 people, which Alan believes offers a "friendly" and "homely" dining experience to customers.

Alan Tsui operated The Dragon Inn on Market Street until 2012 and ran The Grill at The Golden Phoenix in the same unit as now, several years ago (Nub News).

Alan said: "The main reason I am back running a Chinese restaurant is because of my passion for food.

"Our atmosphere is warm and friendly, everyone who comes in here will be treated as our friends and feel like they are at home.

"I am a big foodie and I know what food people are wanting in Crewe.

"We are about high-quality Chinese food and roast in-house every single day.

"Our roast duck is Chinatown standard. You would get exactly the same in somewhere like Hong Kong."

Golden Phoenix is open between 12pm and 9pm (Friday to Tuesday), with food orders taken until just before 9pm (Nub News).

"We are also working on a new function room upstairs. That is a work in progress."
