A 26-year-old Iranian man who moved to Crewe without permission before his arrest, has been convicted of rape following a "cynical, predatory and callous" sexual assault on Brighton beach.

Abdullah Ahmadi was found guilty at Hove Crown Court alongside two co-defendants over the attack on a 20-year-old woman in the early hours of 4 October, 2025.

The Sussex court heard the victim had become separated from her friends during a night out and was highly intoxicated when she was targeted after meeting the men at a fast food restaurant.

Prosecutors said she was then taken to Brighton seafront where the assault took place.

Jurors were told the woman was left terrified and later told police the men laughed during the attack and that she believed she was going to be killed.

She was found with bruising and described the ordeal as "life-changing", saying she had been left too scared to go out.

Ahmadi denied rape, claiming in court that the encounter was consensual.

However, he was convicted alongside Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, who was also found guilty of rape as a secondary party.

Following the incident, Ahmadi left Home Office accommodation near Horsham without permission and moved to Crewe.

He was later arrested in South Cheshire on 12 October after being marked as "absconding, self-departing".

The court heard he had entered the UK in 2025 after claiming he was fleeing persecution in Iran.

Prosecutors described the group as actively targeting women that night. Ahmadi and Alshafe had both denied wrongdoing, while Alshafe told the court he was seeking a British partner.

All three men remain in custody and are due to be sentenced on Wednesday 15 July.
