Armed police and a helicopter were recently deployed in Crewe, due to reports of "suspicious activity" close to the town centre.

On Wednesday 19 June, Cheshire Police were called to an incident on High Street.

A caller reported a number of men, who were possibly wearing balaclavas, were acting suspiciously in the area.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) were deployed over the central area of Crewe to help in locating the men (Alissa Cook-Gray).

Local officers attended the scene, supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and armed police.

Despite a NPAS search over the central area of Crewe, police were unsuccessful in locating the men.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At 8:05pm on 19 June, police were called to reports of suspicious activity on High Street.

"The caller reported a number of men who were possibly wearing balaclavas.

Despite a NPAS search over the central area of Crewe, police were unsuccessful in locating the masked men (Cheshire Police).

"Local officers attended, supported by NPAS and the armed policing alliance.

"A thorough search of the area was undertaken but there was no trace of any of the suspects."
