Another convenience store in Crewe has been hit with police closure order, following reports of "illegal activity" and failing to adhere to age limit restrictions.

High Street Market, High Street, next door to High Street Car Wash, was shut down by Cheshire Police on Friday 8 May.

Officers received reports of anti-social behaviour at the Crewe town centre premises, as well as the listed offences.

This shop closure comes after Infinity Mini Market, Market Street, was handed a closure order for three months.

Granted at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Thursday 16 April, this came after illegal activity including anti-social behaviour at the premises and failing to adhere to age limit restrictions when selling items.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "On Friday 8 May, officers from Crewe Police Problem Solving Team secured a closure order against another convenience store in the town.

"This follows reports of illegal activity, anti-social behaviour at the premises and failing to adhere to age limit restrictions when selling certain items.

"We take your concerns seriously and are committed to making the town as safe as possible for all residents."

It's worth noting the history of decline at this location.

The Commercial Hotel on the corner of High St and Chester Bridge was demolished about 65 years ago for redevelopemnt - and we are still waiting.

About 25 years ago plans were put forward to alter the area (and give a traffic system to make the upcoming Dunwoody Way connection work by making the traffic lights simpler) but that scheme would have interfered with parking outside the old offices of the Crewe Chronicle, so a campaign against it magically appeared.....

Around the same time Sainsbury's bought the garage buildings around the bend and demolished them for access to their new supermarket on the "old B&Q/MFI" site - only to abandon the project when Tesco announced their expansion. The spin doctor for Sainsbury's later came back working for the developers of the Mill St retail project and told the planning committee what a mess the area was!

Not an area to go to despite a bit of a makeover, plus its a pretty much car park.
