Crewe country pub set for major refurbishment as new menu launches

A popular country pub in Crewe is set for a major refurbishment, following the submission of a new premises licence.

Greene King has applied to Cheshire East Council on behalf of The Rising Sun Inn, Middlewich Road, Wistaston, located on the corner of Wistaston Green Road.

The Rising Sun Inn is part of the Chef & Brewer collection, a brand owned by Greene King in its "destination" portfolio, made up of over 150 countryside UK pub-restaurants.

With a Google rating of 4.4 out of 5, The Rising Sun Inn launched a brand new food menu on Thursday 7 May.

The Rising Sun has confirmed it closes from Monday 1 June to Friday 26 June for the refurbishment.

Plans include changes to its bar serving area and counter, external enhancements and the installation of new fixed seating sections.

The Rising Sun Inn is open 11am to 10pm (Monday to Thursday) and 9am to 10pm (Friday to Sunday). Its kitchen serves food from 11.30am to 9pm.

The premises license application reads: "Notice is hereby given that we, Greene King Brewing & Retailing Limited have applied on 29 April 2026 to Cheshire East Council in respect of the premises known as Rising Sun, Middlewich Road, Crewe.

"The minor variation seeks to vary the licensing plan for refurbishment/redecoration works including alterations to the bar servery/counter.

"There will also be new fixed seating sections and external enhancement works."

Representations to Greene King's application shall be made in writing to Cheshire East Council Licensing Section on or before Thursday 14 May.
