Police have arrested a 27-year-old Shropshire man on suspicion of assault at a Crewe pub - taking place during a World Cup match.

The incident inside The Imperial, Edleston Road, happened at approximately 7:15pm on Saturday (December 10) - during the England versus France World Cup quarter final.

A 27-year-old man from Tilstock, Shropshire, was arrested on suspicion of assault.

The man has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

On Tuesday (December 20), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the incident to Nub News.

"Officers were called at around 7.15pm on Saturday (December 10), to a licensed premises on Edleston Road following reports of a disturbance.

"A 27-year-old man from Tilstock was arrested on suspicion of assault.

"He has been bailed pending further enquiries."

On Tuesday (December 20), Cheshire Constabulary confirmed the incident to Nub News (Cheshire Constabulary).
