A RETURN and reuse grocery delivery service is extending its operations to Crewe.

The Modern Milkman says it is on mission "to make plastic-free groceries available to all" and reduce plastic waste.

Those familiar with the chinking of old fashioned milk bottles on delivery rounds may be intrigued by the philosophy of the Colne-based company.

The Modern Milkman also delivers groceries three times a week and lets its customers manage their shopping online.

So far, the firm says its operations in other areas of the country have saved over 16 million plastic bottles from landfill.

Now it has launched a Crewe hub of locally-based milkmen and women to offer fresh produce as well as diary with everything in return and reuse packaging.

The founders of the company say they were inspired by David Attenborough's Blue Planet and are committed to making a positive impact on the environment.

The Modern Milkman CEO Simon Mellin said "Plastic pollution is a problem that's not going away. It has a hugely negative impact on the planet, reducing biodiversity in the oceans, contributing to climate change and even impacting human health."

"Our aim is to help people in Crewe do their bit and reduce their environmental impact by providing convenient and accessible solutions to reduce waste and make plastic-free choices.

"We deliver fresh groceries from independent suppliers and farmers from a local hub. Each hub has a team of local milkmen and women delivering fresh produce up to three times a week, helping to reduce food waste created by over-stocking at home."

The Modern Milkman says its doorstep delivery service has received plenty of positive feedback from customers glad they can reduce their shopping trips.
