Crewe car company workers recently took part in a Banger Rally across Europe for charity, raising almost £2,000.
Crewe Volkswagen trio, Jack Hughes, Edward Hark and Mike Brain aka The 'Cheshire Boys' completed the Banger Rally at the end of July, raising £1969 for St Luke's' Hospice.
The team had initially planned to enter in 2020 but COVID-19 meant it was three years before they could put their 'MadMax' themed Volkswagen Passat through its paces.
The rally's resurgence in 2023 marked the opportunity for The Cheshire Boys to finally get behind the wheel of the car they had spent so long preparing.
The rally begins in St Quentin, France and requires participants to journey through southern Europe, eventually finishing in Barcelona, with teams passing through a series of incredible locations along the way.
Following the incredible care and dignity St Luke's' provided Jack's late Father, the group felt compelled to do something in return.
In addition to the difficulties of navigating through unknown territory, covering 1292 miles in just four days, the banger rally requires participants to complete a series of quirky challenges along the way.
The highlight of these was somehow managing to find the space for 21 French locals either inside or on top of the car.
Swansway's boys did fall short on one challenge, as they asked six members of the Barcelona police force if they'd be willing to get behind the wheel of the MadMax mobile but unfortunately were unsuccessful on all six occasions.
They did however experience success in the fancy dress competition, with their 'Southpark' inspired outfits proving very successful.
Although Jack did describe running around in the Sea while in full fancy dress as a rather strange experience, remarking they received "some funny looks."
The trio were able to revel in their love for cars, a short stop off in Monaco provided them and other rally contestants the opportunity to visit Collection de Voitures de S.A.S le prince de Monaco (The Prince of Monaco's car collection) in what they described as a surreal place.
While Monaco provided luxury, Annecy was the team's favourite destination. The picturesque landscape and good restaurants were the perfect setting for relaxation following a long day's driving.
Digital merchandiser, Jack, said: "This was my second time completing a Two Ball rally and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
"It is a great opportunity to see some amazing places and meet some great people and raise some money for your chosen charity at the same time.
"There are also daily challenges along the way which are a great laugh."
Swansway Motor Group told Nub News it would like to congratulate Jack, Ed and Mike on their "brilliant achievement."
